01- Hoeven, Noord brabant, 15-05-1997.

Large circle, 12 metre, with two satellites, 2 metre and bar, in 60 centimetre high grass, all counter-clockwise. The young man who reported the formation believes that it had just appeared when he found it. He told how the grass still seemed to be 'charged', and made a crackling noise, 'like cold french fries when you throw them in hot oil'.

04- Andel, Noord Brabant, 29-06-1997.

Three circular imprints in barley. Reported in a local newspaper (Eindhovens Dagblad, July 1st). According to the police, the formation appeared between 20.00 Saturday night and 11.00 Sunday morning. The formation was visible from the dike which runs parallel to the Hoofdgraaf (road), west of the village. The formation was shaped like a barbell. It consisted of three circles, connected by 40 cm wide pathways. Flow of the crop: anti-clockwise in all the circles. Orientation: North-South, the largest circle South. The circles were not completely round, but a little bit 'squeezed' in the North-South direction.

Pictogram in rye. When I wanted to enter the formation, I was hit by the worst thunderstorm in my circle-carreer, which forced me to stay in the car for about half an hour. Unfortunately, this storm damaged the formation almost completely. The attached diagram is hence only approximate, particularly the 'fork' at the left. The field was so wet and muddy that I did not feel like uncovering the damaged areas so as to figure out what it had looked like before the storm struck. The counter-clockwise lay of the large circle (appr. 8 m diameter) was still very nice though. I discovered several bent nodes, as well as indications of swollen pulvini.

17- Melick, Limburg, 18-07-1997.

Large pictogram (45 m total length) in barley. Appeared in a local newspaper, 'Het Limburgs Dagblad', around July 27. Good lay, with a central underneath swath running all over the pictogram. The ends of the 'horse shoe' showed five nice adjacent 'dents' into the standing crop, the way ilyes describes in her monograph. The crop was ripe, and many seeds had fallen out of the heads by people stepping on it. Many of them seeds had germinated, and the seedlings were already 5 cm high, peeping through the flattened crop. Samples were taken along the right hand side of the horse shoe, plus two controls and a single sample in a near 'randomly downed' area. Preliminary seedling tests showed 1. Retardation of germination w.r.t. controls and 2. Extremely strong seedlings from the crop formation which did not die even after over two months without water (controls were dead in 2-3 weeks).
